What is a Photo Book?

February 28, 2013 at 11:33 pm

Hello fellow ZoomIners! We noticed that many of you have been wondering as to what a Photo Book exactly is. So to clear the air we had a quick chat with our beloved Photo Book! Read on for excerpts from the conversation…

ZI: ZoomIn
PB: Photo Book

ZI: Hi! Would you like to introduce yourself to our readers?

PB: Sure! I am the ZoomIn Photo Book, the new age and much improved substitute to Photo albums. Think of me as a coffee table or magazine style book which not only includes your digital photos, but also gives you a chance to personalize through various backgrounds, cliparts and text.

I have been around for a while now and have a big family too. We are quite a diverse lot and come in various sizes, finishes, prices, etc. Click here  to see our entire family tree.  What binds all of us together is the sheer joy that we get from helping you preserve your memories in your own fun and unique way!   In fact, when I was featured on the cover of Times magazine, I was called ‘The Memory Keeper’.

The ZoomIn Flipbook

The Flipbook – Our magazine styled Photo Book!

ZI: A ‘Memory Keeper’? That’s so cool! So people look at you during special occasions?

PB: To tell you the truth, ever since I made it to the cover of Times magazine, I’ve been type casted.  You don’t really need an occasion to call me. You can use me every day. However, with that said I do see a lot of people using me during special occasions such as:

  • Documenting their baby’s milestones
  • Reliving their awesome travels
  • Saying “Happy Birthday,” “I Love You,” or “Happy Anniversary”
  • Creating unique gifts for special holidays such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or Rakhsha Bandhan, etc
  • Capturing engagement and wedding memories
  • Sharing a memorable year with loved ones
  • Giving old albums a second life by converting them into digital Photo Books
  • Showcasing their professional work to clients

Although, if you ask me, there’s plenty of other times you can call on me. Some of my recent favorites are:

  • A gardening book
  • A dedication to my favorite sports person/sports team
  • A cookbook full of recipes
  • Collection of best photos
  • A school’s cricket team
  • A Mother’s memories

"How I Grew Up!"

Here’s an interesting concept – This book covers a baby girl’s first 5 years, right from the time she was born.

Think about it this way – anytime you’re looking to preserve your memories in your own unique way, I’m here! I’m always bringing about a rush of mirth and happiness wherever I go.

ZI: That’s quite a statement to make! You’ve been told that?

PB: I know it sounds like I’m blowing my own trumpet here, but let me illustrate through a couple of recent testimonials that I received…

“My sisters and I almost burst into tears when we saw the mold on our parents’ wedding photos. We quickly scanned the remaining good photos and then thought of creating their wedding Photo Book! We chose a complete vintage look-n-feel theme and a leather cover. Kept it really simple since their beautiful black and white photos spoke volumes! My parents were so overwhelmed. I think it’s the best gift we’ve given them”

“We were expecting our first child and I was trying to figure out what I could give my wife as we were entering a new phase of our lives. During that time, I came across zoomin.com and learned about Photo Books being a way to tell your story. So I started working on a flipbook that walked us down memory lane, starting from when we met,  to our wedding and finally to our recent trip together. My wife was really surprised with my creativity and loved it! I’ll need to start making the sequels once our child arrives!”

ZI: Wow! They make it sound so effortless!

PB: That’s because it actually is! All I ask for is a bit of your time. How much you’d like to devote though is completely up to you! If you have a fair amount of time on your hands, you can sit down and I will offer you full freedom to create and customize me the way you want.  We can spend a few hours together and I promise you a memory that will last a lifetime.

Of course, if you don’t have the luxury of time, you can check with my niece the ‘Express Book’. She comes pre-designed and in turn, tends to be quick with her work. Various themes with readily designed photo place holders and the option to add text wherever you may please. What more could you possibly want!

Freedom of creativity through various customization options!

Freedom of Creativity – Add as many photos to a page as you may please, tilt, crop, add a background, a border, clipart, text, convert to black & white and various other customization options!

That’s all that we have for now! Although we’ve been promised one more interview real soon, so keep checking this space.

ZoomIn’s Guide to Travel Photography

February 20, 2013 at 10:45 pm

You’re going on vacation…how do you make sure you capture the pictures to represent the holiday? How do you shoot a perfect collection of photos that will make you remember your holiday for years to come?

Don’t shy away from the shot.
Once you’re back from your vacation, it’s your photos that will do the talking for you. A few years down the line, all the memories will reflect through the photos that you’ve clicked, so make sure that you’ve captured enough from your trip to take back with you.

Also, while it would be intimidating, try not to get carried away with the locations/structures around you. There’s a whole lot more to capture out there! Keep your eyes open and let your mind run free. We suggest:

  • Don’t be afraid to push the shutter button – Click first, sort later.
  • Get different angles – Don’t click that same old monument in that same old angle. Try a new one. You don’t want to return home with photos that look like postcards.
  • Frame your shot…multiple times! – Same subject, different frame. Try it; you never know the output till you don’t see it!
  • Click candid photos – Remember, each photo has its own tale to tell.
Get different angles

Get different angles – The famous ‘Burj Al Arab’ hotel at Dubai shot from a lesser known area.

Shoot locals. What they do, what their activities are, what they wear, the way their markets are spread out, their temples, their everyday grocery shopping routine…capture it all! You’ll be surprised at how much you can get out of capturing everyday basic activities. Remember – You’re the tourist, not them!

Shoot locals!

Shoot locals – The simplest of activities will look incredibly engaging.

Be familiar with customs.
Look before you leap! Do some basic research before you go clicking like crazy. Is it okay to take a picture of a Buddha statue? Is it ok to take pictures inside a temple? Be aware of restrictions and be respectful of the culture.

Shoot those signs/maps.
You’ll be surprised how helpful these references are when you get around to sharing your photos. Signs and maps will help you recall your day’s event and also identify the images you just captured. So instead of calling it “That beautiful cave” you can actually rewind back to the sign and caption the photo as “Elegant Ellora – Cave No. 17“.

Also, the shot of a road map will never go waste for obvious reasons….

Shoot those maps - It always helps to have a shot handy of the map explaining the route you're on.

Be comfortable.
Strike the right balance! Don’t carry any “extra luggage” around while you’re out on your feet – take only what’s absolutely necessary. Extra items will only mean extra weight which might make you uncomfortable. Remember: A light traveler is a happy traveler.

We’ve come up with a list of essentials that you can’t leave home without!

Spare storage – Since most cameras are around 14-16 megapixels these days, the output of each jpeg is nothing less than 3-5 MB per photo. A standard 4 GB SD Card could possibly be problematic, especially if you’re going to be recording HD videos. We reckon a 16 GB card (class 6 or above if you’re going to be recording videos in Full HD) should do the trick.

Spare batteries – The last thing you want is to be waiting for that perfect shot and suddenly your camera refuses to respond. And ‘oh the sorrow’ when you realize you’ve run out of power! We recommend carrying a spare set of batteries with you at all times. If a spare set of batteries isn’t a viable option, it’s best to carry your charger on you. You can then take a break from your day and recharge yourself and your cameras battery at the nearest cafe!

Comfortable pouch – You’ll be walking with the camera on your shoulder/waist all day long. Ensure that the pouch you carry around on you is comforting and doesn’t make you feel uneasy at any point in time. Sometimes, the free manufacturer bags/cases/pouches just don’t cut it. Carry a pouch in which you can fit an extra card, a soft cloth with which you can clean your lens, your battery charger, etc. (Or for the DSLR consider a camera strap which gives the mobility to shoot swiftly without any hassle).

Hope these simple yet powerful tips help you take your photos to the next level!

Samsung launches the new Galaxy Grand DUOS GT!

February 8, 2013 at 4:39 am

Yeah, we know. You’ll be rolling your eyes and thinking to yourself that this is just-another-new-phone launched by Samsung. But trust us when we say this – with the Galaxy Grand, it’s not the eye rolling that Samsung’s after, it’s the eye-popping!

Samsung Galaxy Grand DUOS GTDon’t be fooled by its thin and sleek (and very Samsung-ish) look. This baby actually packs quite a punch. The first thing you’d notice is the humongous 5” LCD capacitive screen, with pixel dimensions of 480×800, which ensures you don’t miss out on any details that you’re looking at. Under the skin we have a 1.2 dual-core processor doing the thinking, the power is generated through 1 GB of RAM and at the heart of it all is the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS. With an 8 megapixel camera at the back (with LED flash), a 2 megapixel cam in the front and Full HD 1080p video recording (30 fps) capabilities, you won’t ever have to burden yourself with carrying a camera. Other spoils are; dual SIM, 8 GB internal storage space, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G connectivity, a micro SD card slot, auto focus on your camera,  and the list goes on and on. Click here to see the complete list of specifications.

Oh and did we mention the awesome new ‘Voice Control’ feature which is set to spoil you even further? All you need to do is say the word and it’ll execute your command! Whether you want to set an alarm, click a photo, check on the weather, make a call,  text/email someone, search for a contact, check your calendar schedule, or even update Facebook/Twitter, the S-Voice can help you out!

With features that probably the Galaxy S4 would be proud of, Samsung has priced the phone quite smartly at – wait for it – Rs. 21,500! Through this, Samsung seems to be addressing the ultimate consumer want which is – Get more, for less!

We don’t know about you’ll, but we surely cannot get enough of this tabl…err…phone! Not to mention, if this clicks (which our initial sales trends seems to indicate), not only will Samsung see a windfall in terms of sales, but the direction the entire mobile phone segment takes from here is just way too exciting! Which leaves each of us with just one question in our heads – Next is what?
