A Canvas Print Creation

April 12, 2013 at 12:31 am

We’re back with part 2 of our Canvas Print feature !  Today we wanted to share with you a user creation.  We were walking through production the other day when we came across Jabeen’s Canvas Print of her two adorable little girls.  We couldn’t resist the cuteness of these siblings and had to find out more.

Canvas Print Example

Can you tell us more about your canvas print and what inspired you to create it?

My canvas print is a picture of my two daughters.  It was a photo that my husband and I loved because it captured a moment we wanted to remember always.  Kids grow up so quickly!  I was also looking for artwork to place in my living room and thought that the canvas would do nicely – something more unique than a regular 8″x10″ print in a photo frame.

What type of canvas did you create?

I decided to create a 12″x12″ gallery wrapped canvas because I liked how the image wraps around the frame. I thought it would make it look more professional and I’m happy to say that it does!

What did you think when the canvas prints arrived?

My older daughter asked me who had painted the picture!  That’s how beautifully it turned out.  I think printing the photograph on canvas made the photo even more special.

Thanks so much for sharing, Jabeen!  If you’re interested in creating a canvas print like Jabeen’s here are the steps:

1)    Click here and locate Gallery Wrap. Select 12″x12″ in the size dropdown menu and click Create.

2)    Once inside the online builder, locate the photo you would like to use and drag it into the canvas.

3)    To add clipart, text or a background, click on the tabs located near the bottom of the screen to browse our library.

4)    Once you’re done creating, Preview your creation and Add to Cart!

We hope you’ve been inspired by Jabeen’s Canvas Print like we have!  If you have any questions about our Canvas Prints, check out our Canvas Print FAQs.  It covers all sorts of great info like how to make a Canvas Print and helpful tips.  Enjoy!

What is a Canvas Print?

April 8, 2013 at 11:41 pm

An interior designer once told me that every room in your home should have one wow factor.  It can be anything from an amazing rug picked up from your Kashmir trip to an antique piece of furniture that once belonged to your grandparents.  For me personally, I love having art on my walls.  But because the market for affordable art is filled with generic, mass produced posters/photographs/paintings, it’s a challenge to find that one piece that speaks to me.  Fortunately, that’s where the ZoomIn Canvas Print comes into play.

If you’re not sure what a Canvas Print is or how to maximize its impact, sit tight because our next set of posts will focus on just that.  Today we’ll talk about what a Canvas Print is.  In our following posts we’ll share how to maximize the wow factor of a Canvas Print and also share some real life examples. So let’s get started!

What is a Canvas Print?

A ZoomIn Canvas Print is art created by you.  Using our online product builder, you add your image and personal touches.  We print your art on canvas and deliver it right to you.  Then all you need to do is hang it on your wall.  Instant personalised art!

What type of canvas is used?

ZoomIn prints on a heavy 375 GSM, brilliant white archival canvas.  The print has a matte finish and a protective coating is also applied to protect it from aging.

What type of photographs would make great Canvas Prints?

Just about any image that has meaning to you would look fantastic.  Some of our favorites are family portraits, closeup pictures of your children, beautiful shots from a holiday or even your child’s hand drawn illustration.  If it’s for personal use you can also purchase images from a stock image site so the possibilities are endless!

What style options do I have?

We have three different canvas styles you can choose from:

Gallery wrapped: The outer edge of the image wraps around the side of the frame. Prints are stretched onto a wooden frame so they arrive ready to frame.

Mounted: A wrap with the image extending to the edge of the frame. Sides of canvas are kept white.  Mounted prints also come stretched on a frame so they are ready to hang.

Rolled canvas: Select the rolled canvas if you would like to frame or mount your canvas print on your own.

Hope that sheds some light on what a Canvas Print is.  Check out our Canvas Print page to get started and stay tuned for our next post where we share user creations!

Questions? Check out our Canvas FAQs or contact our Helpdesk for assistance.

Have you created a unique ZoomIn Canvas Print that you’d like to share with our readers?  Please send an email to community@zoomin.com with a picture of the canvas and the story behind it.

Introducing the Photodiarist!

April 5, 2013 at 12:11 am

Are you the type who thinks that a picture is actually worth a thousand words? One who believes that their camera is as good as their third eye? Do you wish to keep your camera with you at all times and never miss a moment? Well then, you, most definitely, should consider becoming a Photodiarist!

What is a ‘Photodiarist’ you ask? Well, it’s quite self explanatory really. It’s a person who likes to create a diary out of simple everyday photos that they’ve clicked. More often than not, they let their own photos do the talking. Anywhere, anytime, anything – they believe in capturing ordinary every day (and much overlooked) moments and providing their own vision and thoughts on it. They believe in capturing anything and everything from the little pleasures to the stark realities of life. They don’t need an occasion or a reason to go out capturing photos. All they need is their camera and their vision…

Here are a few pages from my photodiary – places and moments that caught my attention this week…

The Silent Street

The Silent Street – Taken at the wee hours of a weeknight, I was walking a friend of mine back home & noticed how empty the otherwise ‘no-space-to-breathe’ stretch of Lamington road was. It was screaming to be captured.

An Update on ZoomIn Studios

March 26, 2013 at 2:17 pm
ZoomIn Studio

Three years ago we announced the launch of the ZoomIn Photo Studio – a retail photo network like no other in India.  At launch, we opened 7 Studios in 5 cities through a partnership with Crossword Bookstores.  Later, we added 11 more stores through a partnership with Croma.  We were thrilled to be able to bring our award winning online service to millions of shoppers – right in their neighborhood.

Over the last 3 years, we have served tens of thousands of customers at these retail locations, and introduced many more to our online service.   Our stated goal even at launch was that the ZoomIn Studio would be a “bridge” to zoomin.com where our offline retail customers would be introduced to our online service.

We are pleased to announce that since then our customers have uploaded over a hundred million photos and created hundreds of thousands of photo books to be shipped to every neighborhood in India.  In addition many, have used our recently introduced Cash on Delivery service to pay for their online orders.  In many ways our goals for the studio have been met.  Clearly, we are now in a position to further advance the ZoomIn service online.

With that perspective, today we are announcing the phase out of the Zoomin Retail Studio.  We have already begun shutting down many stores and have invited our regular retail customers to come online.

We do realize that this will cause some inconvenience to customers that had relied on store staff for the creation process.  We are committed to making the online creation process even simpler and have recently launched the popular Express Book format.  You can try out this process for yourself using our Express Holi photobook for example.  Do contact our Helpdesk team if you need any help in getting started online.

We’d like to thank all our retail customers and store associates who helped create something really special.  Your commitment has made our online success story truly possible!

Camera Care During Holi

March 26, 2013 at 7:38 am

Holi’s almost here and by now you would have surely seen a number of people walking with their faces covered in ‘Gulaal’ or some other holi-favored color. We want you to be ready and equipped to capture those amazing Holi moments. Last week in part 1 of a 2 part series to get you prepared for this can’t miss festival, we shared photo tips to deal with the harsh midday sun.

Precious Memories

Precious memories – Don’t want to miss them now, do we?

In this second part, we would like to concentrate more on the safety of your photo capturing gizmo, be it a camera or even a mobile phone.

Zip Lock Bag – The universal solution:

It would work best to just have a small zip lock bag, which can store your phone/camera safely. While this would sound risky, trust us, this is the best alternative available. You can find a zip lock bag at most local shops and it won’t burn a hole in your pocket either!

If you feel this is not a viable option, you can take your phone/camera, wrap it around in a plastic bag and either stick it up with cellophane/duct tape or good old rubber bands. While this may sound crazy, if done properly (basically wrapped over 2-3 times on the device) your precious device dry will remain dry.

Housing kits – The more professional approach:

Well, of course there are professional alternatives out there! While they may set you back a few bucks, these housing kits are meant to survive underwater expeditions, so Holi as such, should be a cinch! And guess what – they’re available in two different types: one for everyday Point and Shoots and one for the bulkier DSLR’s. Plus, there’s a lot more where these came from! Click here to check out the entire range.

Dicapac WP 410

The Dicapac WP 410 – Fits the bill for your Point & Shoot

And hey – you’re not paying up for nothing!  You can always reuse these kits too! Maybe the next time you go swimming. Hope these tips help you. Here’s to a happy and safe Holi – from all of us snappers at ZoomIn.

3 Must Know Tips For Taking Beautiful Holi Photos

March 18, 2013 at 11:49 am

Holi is just around the corner!  Are you ready and equipped to capture amazing Holi moments? If not, our post will get you prepared for this can’t miss festival. Today we’ll be sharing photo tips to deal with the harsh midday sun. Now let’s get started!

Hands down, the Golden Hour (the first and last hour of sunlight in a day) is the ideal time to shoot.  But during Holi, you’ll of course want to whip out your camera at all times of the day – including midday when the sun is directly overhead and is at its strongest. During this time of day, harsh shadows and highlights will be a challenge. As a photographer, you’ll need to compensate to avoid whitewashed photos and dark shadows which take detail away from your images. But never fear! We have three quick tips to help you out.

Move in closer

The midday sun results in loss of photographic detail. This is because your camera has a difficult time interpreting highlights and shadows.  Moving physically closer to the subject removes some of these highlights and shadows, simplifies composition and as a result brings detail back into your photograph.

Take advantage of shade

Avoid direct sunlight and make use of any form of shade as much as you can.  Some examples of shade would be trees, bushes and buildings. Utilizing the shade will help minimize highlights and dark shadows.

Use fill flash

It may seem counter-intuitive, but when you’re photographing portraits, utilizing your camera’s flash will help illuminate your subject’s face and minimize the harsh shadows cast by the sun, particularly around the eyes. Most cameras will allow you to adjust the intensity of the flash. Adjust your flash’s intensity down a bit, take a test photo and then adjust as necessary.

That’s it for now on the clicking front!  We hope these tips help you capture some good Holi photos.

If you’re looking to print any of your Holi photos, now is the time to do so.  Our Buy One Get One FREE sale on Photo Prints is running from now through Monday, March 9. Best part is there’s no code required – redeem the offer directly in-app! Go on, your favorite photo moments will look better on the wall than on a disk in a drawer.

The Summer Adventure Storybook

March 14, 2013 at 7:37 am

Each day our production staff prints, assembles and ships out one fantastic creation after another. Many of which get us to scratch our heads and think, “Wow, what a great idea!”  That got us thinking… why not showcase the creativity of the ZoomIn community? So every few weeks we will share with you some of our favorite user creations (with their permission of course!). First up… a Photo Book created by Kavita!

Kavita’s Photo Book caught our eye because she created a colorful storybook about her children’s summer

Kavita's fun summer adventure with her kids!

Kavita’s fun summer adventure with her kids!

adventures. We loved her unique use of the Photo Book and had to find out more!  Here’s what she had to say…

We loved how you created a storybook featuring your daughters. Can you tell us more about the creation and what inspired you to create it?

I created a summer adventures storybook for my 6 year old so she could see what a great summer she had even though we didn’t take out of town trips like her friends.  Instead, we did a lot of fun things in the city that we live in. I basically created the Photo Book using all the mobile phone photos I had taken over the summer – visiting the zoo, park, museum and waterpark; attending the dance show; hanging out with grandparents and cousins; haircut at the salon(!); and play dates. Everything went into the Photo Book. It was a lot of fun and surprisingly quick to make!

What did you and your daughters think when the Photo Book arrived?

Both my older daughter and I were floored.  It was gorgeous and reminded us both what a great summer we had.  Even though we didn’t take a trip to the beach or someplace nice, and we just stayed home, we did so many fun things that it was truly a grand summer. My six-year old daughter ended up taking it to school and proudly sharing the book with her teachers and classmates by reading it out loud for them. She looks through it several times a week. It worked out to be a great (and cheap!) marketing tool for what a great summer mom and dad had given her. 😉

Notice how Kavita has laid out photos differently on both sides and used different designs on each page

Do you have any tips for creating a storybook Photo Book?

I created a story around the photos that I wanted to include. On each page I added text so that it read like a storybook.  In my case, my daughters were the main characters and the story that I wrote was about the fun adventures they had over the summer. For the design, I used the pastel colored backgrounds with polka dots and stripes, which looked very sweet (Baby theme).  Next time, I might experiment and keep the background plain white, as that would resemble a typical storybook more.

Thanks so much for sharing, Kavita!  If you’re interested in creating a Photo Book just like Kavita’s, here are the steps:

1)    Click here and select Softcover Flipbook. Select 8.5×11 Flipbook.

2)    For theme, select Baby and Kids > Baby and then press Next Step button

3)    Select the photos you would like to include. Press Next Step button.

4)    To change up the backgrounds like Kavita did, click the “Customize” button and then browse our library of backgrounds.  The backgrounds Kavita used can be found in the Baby folder. To add text, click on the “Text” tab and start typing.

We hope you’ve been inspired by Kavita’s storybook like we have!  If you have any questions about our Photo Books, check out our Photo Book FAQs.  It covers all sorts of great info like how to make a Photo Book and helpful tips on how to create the perfect book.   Have fun!
